I am pleased to announce the launch of JenHalliganPR.com a literary publicity site focused on helping up and coming authors get the exposure they need through online marketing and live events.
Jen and I bonded over our shared love of books several years ago and I have had the pleasure of watching her business grow from its impetus. I was more than happy to take on the task of helping her re-brand her company and build a truly custom site for her use.
As her site is the starting point for marketing campaigns for her authors, it was important to have a site that would showcase their work, while being incredibly easy to use. With daily updates and strong social media attention, Jen needed a site where she could plug in book and author information quickly and not worry about front end formatting.
Design started with a template chosen for its overall layout and minimalist style then highly customized. From there I worked with Jen to create a sleek and professional look for her logo, design and color palette. Serif fonts that harkened back to print books were used for titles and headlines with a clean modern sans-serif for section headers. Design was kept flat, with lots of white space and textured grays to really allow the artwork of the covers to pop off the page.
Using WordPress and the Genesis Framework as the starting point, I created several custom post types for books, authors, tours and events that could pull info from other post types and create relationships. This allows Jen to simply select a book to tour and all the info for the book as well as for the author is pulled in automatically.
Highly customized pages for individual books and authors shows all the info properly formatted and highly styled without a single lick of code needed from the user. Saving valuable time and worry for Jen.
Shortcodes were written to display single book info, an author box and a filterable featured book section. Allowing for easy access to info for anywhere on the site.
By building the site around the most used features and redundant tasks, Jen is able to spend less time working on her site and more time focusing on her clients. Be sure to check out JenHalliganPR.com, peruse the great authors she represents and appreciate the simplicity of what her site accomplishes.
